Solcana Fitness is dedicated to making rigorous, high-level fitness available to all people. We are a queer-friendly, social-justice minded, trauma-informed, feminist gym designed for folks of all fitness levels , physical abilities, and backgrounds. We offer classes that will help you tap into your inner athlete and find the best version of you. We are a CrossFit affiliate and coach CrossFit based classes, as well as Strength, Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, Endurance, Gymnastics, and Active Mobility classes.

We currently are able to provide full scholarships to 7 Black, Indigenous, and those who identify as people of color (BIPOC) who are interested in being a member with us but cannot currently pay for membership (normally $170/month for a year). The application for the scholarship will be open from January 10th, 2020 to Friday January 31s, 2020 11:00pm (CT). Notifications of acceptance and waitlists will be sent at toward the end of the week of February 3rd, 2020.

This years scholarship recipients will participate as a cohort in an BIPOC [Em]Power Class over the course of 5 weeks. The class will meet February 18th to March 19th on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm-7:30pm and will be lead by a BIPOC Coach. The purpose of this 5-week class is to provide a supportive environment to transitioning to the gym and an introduction to fundamental skills in strength, conditioning, gymnastics, and mobility that will translate across our classes at our gym. This is for our BIPOC Scholarship recipients only and participation is required. After the class you are welcome, and we strongly encourage you, to participate in any classes we offer. We will also organize a BIPOC CrossFit Class that will be organized based on coaches and athletes availability, as a spot for folks to come and continue to meet as a cohort and other BIPOC athletes at the gym.

The first two weeks of the [Em]Power BIPOC Program can serve as an opportunity for you to try out our gym and see if we are a good fit for you. After those two weeks you may decide whether or not you would like to continue or not. Any spots that open at that point will be offered to folks on the waitlist so they can participate in the remainder of the BIPOC [Em]Power Class.

We are seeking scholarship applicants who are interested in being part of a growing and dynamic community. At Solcana, we understand that equality and equity are not the same thing, and that for us to strengthen our community, we need to create a space that is accessible to people of color, queer and trans folks, and those with disabilities (Solcana members with disabilities may be available to talk if applicants have concerns about how their disability will affect participation). Our goal with this scholarship is to offer an opportunity for people of color to access high-quality fitness at no cost. We strongly encourage folks with disabilities, Indigenous and Black womyn, trans/gnc/femmes, those who identify as working class, and those who are single parents to apply.

A small committee of Solcana coaches and athletes of color will examine the applications and choose the top 7 recipients, plus a 5 person waitlist.
