Solcana blog

Hey folks, Lucia here!

Monday, January 30th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM Body Knowledge will be here at Solcana Fitness with InBody body composition testing.

We’ll be hosting InBody every 6 months to provide this service in the hopes that those who enjoy seeking out body composition testing will be able to obtain:

  1. Consistent testing methods
  2. Enough time between sessions to track changes

In my opinion, there are so many types of body composition testing methods available these days (BODPOD, DEXA, hydrostatic, etc.!) that a few things happen:

  1. Jumping from one testing method to another seems to cause frustration more than anything else. While many methods appear to be able to claim that they’re the “gold standard”, regardless, there still seems to be variability between different testing methods. Because of this, why not streamline so at the very least, the testing machine doesn’t change appointment to appointment?
  2. Because of our ability to track the specifics of what’s going on inside our bodies, I see a lot of people, myself included, lose the forest for the trees. This especially seems to happen when people are comparing test results in increments of time shorter than 6 months. Our bodies are living, breathing things and having static test results come back (no changes) can often feel like a punch to the face when you’ve been working hard on balancing your athletic training, coming to mobility, feeling good in your body and generally just rocking life. Those little numbers on a page can make it seem like what you’re doing doesn’t matter. I’m not a fan of that–there are many physiological changes that can and do occur that body composition testing will not reflect. With this, I think testing composition more than twice a year isn’t worth anyone’s time or emotional energy! Let your body do what it needs to do.

So! Here’s the deal. You can sign up for just the January testing for $30, or you can sign up for January 30th AND July 31st for $50 together, and know that you’ve got your body composition testing scheduled for all of 2017. Cool!

We want to provide this service because InBody is easy, quick, will be right at Solcana, and having some numbers can be helpful depending on your goal. We also want to provide this service to streamline any of the questions you have regarding body composition testing, and help support the idea that it is NOT the end all, be all of health. It’s really only one glimpse at a few different arenas that can help inform your training but do not dictate your self-worth, the worth of your training, or the progress you have made towards any personal goals.

Check out the Body Knowledge website as well as their testing protocol sheet for more details about how testing works.
