Solcana blog

They say if you do something for 21 days, it becomes a habit. While I haven’t done 21 workouts at Solcana yet, this week marks week three of me going consistently! This is big progress, people. I’m going to celebrate this win.

Last week, I was so excited when my pal (we’ll call her J) started asking me questions about CrossFit. She had been a member at another local CrossFit gym but ended up leaving because she never really quite felt comfortable. She told me that she actually injured herself because she kept trying to do things before she was ready at that gym. In talking with her, I could tell that she wanted to try CrossFit again but harbored some hesitation – and rightfully so. Then I said this: “I have never felt that there was anything I couldn’t do at Solcana CrossFit and that is why I keep going back.” True Statement. Yeah, I can’t do a pull up. I do ring rows. I can’t do multiple push ups from the floor. So I use a box. I can’t do a box jump (yet), so I do box step ups. See the theme here? The coaches at Solcana CrossFit care about you, your body, and how you feel. They want you to listen to your body and they also want to push you to try your hardest – within reason. How can you not love that?

J and me, post WOD (we RAN!!)
J and me, post WOD (we RAN!!)

J came with me to last Wednesday’s workout and we had a blast. Aside from the laughs we had (HOW CAN WE NOT, I AM A COMEDIAN), each workout just seems so manageable. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hard as sh*t. It’s just that each workout is broken up into tiny pieces – warm up, weight lifting, and metcon (aka metabolic conditioning/cardio). Each of these pieces somehow becomes manageable in my crazy town brain when divided up this way. For example, last week I RAN. I ran without crying and in delusions about how much I wanted/needed a bagel. This is a WIN. Yes. It was only 1/4 of a mile, but I could see the finish line from the starting point (which helped me immensely) and after that I ended up doing 90 reps of 3 pull ups (ring rows…you know how I do) and 12 squats. DID I MENTION ALL OF THIS HAPPENED IN 8 MINUTES? You see what I mean. In the moment, it’s like, “Ok one more round of these reps” and then in the end it’s like, “OMG I JUST DID THAT 90 TIMES”. Makes you feel like a bad ass. And, I like it.

I can’t wait to see what this week brings. I’m hoping for no burpees. MOTHER OF GOD NO BURPEES. Seriously. Please. No burpees. There will probably be burpees.

STAY TUNED NEXT WEEK FOR A VLOG AS THE KIDS SAY. I think that means video blog. FUN!

In solidarity and sweat,

Jenn

Again Kudos to you- you explain it in a way that makes me feel like I could do it- My girlfriend is reading your blog also and she felt that what you say about changing your thinking about how you approach exercise really resonates with her too. So we are now #teamjenn and are trying to think differently about our workouts.
The one thing you have that we need though is Coach Hannah!!! Isn’t she the best?
