Solcana blog

Currently Minneapolis is dealing with a health crisis right in our own Solcana neighborhood, and we have the opportunity to help. Close to Solcana, on the intersection of Cedar and Hiawatha is a very large and growing homeless encampment made up of mostly American Indian folks who are currently unable to access the resources they need. This encampment has been here for years, but recently has grown rapidly in size.

These are folks in our neighborhood who are struggling to fulfill their basic needs on a daily basis. We have the opportunity to support efforts to help those folks feel safe and cared for. In order to do so, we are going to be collecting goods here at the gym from now until Sep 6th. Donations will be brought to the encampment on Thursdays of each week, starting this Thursday Aug 23rd.

If you would like to make a donation, here is a list of items:

  • Gallon or larger jugs of water
  • Sanitary wipes (safe for use on skin)
  • Toilet paper
  • Basic hygiene essentials (toothbrush/paste, bar of soap, etc.)
  • Basic first aid supplies
  • Apples, Oranges or other hearty fruits
  • Non perishable items that do not require a can opener
  • Coolers & Ice
  • Lightweight blankets
  • Portable phone chargers/batteries
  • Drawstring trash bags

If you have any items to donate, please bring them directly to the gym. We will have a box out by the bump for you to place them in. Also, if you’d like to help bring items over on Thursdays, we will do so after the 11:30 am class.
