Introducing April’s Mobili-Buddy of the Month, Melissa Ho!

Melissa has been a consistent, strong and grounding presence in the mobility space for the past several months and we couldn’t be happier to have her here as part of our Solcana Fam. Check out what she has to say about her mobility practice and Solcana Wellness!

What first drew you to adding mobility into your routine?

Before mobility, my body was unbalanced. As the weights became heavier, my body stiffened up. The gainz train halted and I found myself unable to move forward. I realized I needed to change some habits and mobility was the solution.

What was your first mobility experience like?

If I had to describe my first mobility experience in one word, it would be slow. But that was exactly what my body needed. I stretched muscles and parts of my being that were very neglected and I came out feeling reborn. It was the first time in a while where I actually focused on my body and felt a connection.

What are the benefits you’ve noticed from incorporating mobility?

I do not feel as much pain or soreness as I did before. CrossFit can be so intense and fast-paced that sometimes I forget to breathe… Mobility has increased my patience, awareness of body (especially when I need to rest), and controlling my breathing (still a work in progress). It has really helped me feel more confident in my body’s ability to perform.

Is there anything that gets you really jazzed about mobility?

The music! Nothing better than sinking into a position with calming music in the background ~ Also, the high that I experience after a mobility session is Ajdkflsh fantastic.

What one piece of advice or insight would you share with someone that may be reserved about mobility?

If you are looking to establish long-term health, do not neglect mobility! The relationship between mobility and the body is like oil to a machine. You need to oil the machine in order to keep it running smoothly and efficiently.
